2009-2010 Danforth Campus Occasional Parking Program

The Occasional Parking Program is being introduced in an effort to encourage members of the Washington University community to utilize alternate forms of transportation to and from campus. The Occasional Parking Program may be used in conjunction with one of the many available transportation alternatives, and will provide commuters with an easy, low-cost option for campus parking, on occasions in which driving a personal vehicle is necessary.

The Occasional Parking Program allows faculty, staff, and commuter students (both full-time and part-time) to purchase a set number of discounted daily permits for occasional use on the Danforth Campus. Daily permits purchased through the Occasional Parking Program will be sold at a rate that is half the full cost; for 2009-2010, the discounted daily permits will be available to Occasional Parking members for the cost of $2.50 each.

Eligibility: To enroll in the Occasional Parking Program, you must be a current Washington University (Danforth Campus) faculty or staff member, an employee of a Qualified Service Provider for Washington University, or an enrolled student with commuter status. Residential students are not eligible to enroll in this program.

Enrollment: Those who wish to enroll in the Occasional Parking Program must submit the following documentation to Parking Services:

  • Completed Occasional Parking Program Enrollment Form

  • A copy of your driver's license

  • A copy of your current vehicle registration

  • The enrollment form cannot be submitted online. However, we have provided the enrollment form as a PDF document, which you may print out and submit to our office as outlined below.

This information may be submitted in person at the office of Parking & Transportation Services, located on Washington University's North Campus at 700 Rosedale Avenue.

You may mail the appropriate documents to us at the following address:

    Washington University Parking Services
    Occasional Parking Program
    Campus Box 1200
    One Brookings Drive
    St. Louis, MO 63130

You may also fax the documents to us at (314) 935-5327.

Membership: Once your enrollment materials have been received and your eligibility has been verified, you will be sent a membership card. It is very important that you keep this card in a safe place (like your wallet, purse, or your vehicle’s glove compartment), as it must be presented when you purchase the discounted daily permits.

Membership will be valid for one fiscal year: from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. Re-enrollment will be required if you wish to continue participation in the program after that date.

As a participant in the Occasional Parking Program, you will agree to refrain from purchasing an annual parking permit (with the exception of the Off-Site permit or Motorcycle permit).

Purchasing Your Discounted Daily Permits: The daily parking permits that will be issued to you through the Occasional Parking Program will work much the same as the standard one-day parking permits. The permits will be valid in any yellow parking zone for one calendar day. Like the standard daily parking permits, discounted daily parking permits will not be valid in the Danforth Center Garage. You will be required to scratch off the appropriate month, day and year on the discounted daily permits, and the permit must be displayed on your vehicle's rear view mirror.

Full-time employees and students will be eligible to purchase a total of 48 daily permits at the discounted rate of $2.50 each, for use at any time during the term of membership.

Part-time employees and students will be eligible to purchase a total of 24 daily permits at the discounted rate of $2.50 each, for use at any time during the term of membership.

Discounted daily permits will only be sold in increments of 8, and will only be sold at the office of Parking Services. However, Occasional Parking program members will have the opportunity to purchase discounted dailies at the Danforth Campus U-Pass Distribution Centers, which are held twice a year (at the beginning of the Fall Semester and again at the beginning of the Spring Semester) in the Danforth University Center. When purchasing discounted daily permits at the U-Pass Distribution Centers, only cash or check will be accepted as payment. For specific dates and times, please check the Parking Services website or contact the office of Parking Services. Enrolled members in the Occasional Parking Program will be notified by e-mail of any upcoming Distribution Centers.

To purchase a batch of discounted daily permits, you must bring your membership card and a photo ID to the office of Parking Services during our regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday). Your membership card will be punched by Parking Services staff each time a batch of daily permits is purchased. You may continue to buy batches of eight permits in this manner until you have reached your limit. Membership cards must also be presented when purchasing batches of discounted daily permits at the U-Pass Distribution Centers.

Once the annual limit of discounted daily permits has been reached, you may continue to purchase full-cost daily permits at $5.00.

Canceling Your Membership: If you decide at any time during the year that you’d like to cancel your membership, you will simply need to return your membership card to the office of Parking Services. Once you have canceled your membership, you will be eligible to purchase an annual parking permit.

Misuse of the Program: Membership cards and daily permits purchased through the Occasional Parking Program are non-transferable. There will be no refunds or exchanges for the daily permits purchased through the Occasional Parking Program. Occasional Parking Program members are prohibited from purchasing an annual parking permit while enrolled in the program. Failure to comply with the program guidelines will result in immediate membership termination and prevention from enrolling in future Parking & Transportation programs.
